Task 1

Ironing Board

The ironing board is a good example for a lever. The load is applied at the two stands, the fulcrum is in the middle and the load is below the ironing board. So to collapse the ironing board one has to apply force at the stand and the top of the stands that are locked in place will slip out of the holders and the ironing board will be collapsed.

Microwave Oven

The lid of the microwave oven is a good example of a lever. The base of the lid is the fulcrum, the effort is at the handle and the load would be at the middle. So you simply push the handle for the lid to open and close. Also there is a linkage to secure the handle in place so that is does not just fall open.

Dustbin

The dustbin is a good example of the use of linkages. The button of the dustbin is connected to one side of the lever, with the fulcrum in the middle and the load on the other side. The load side is connected to a vertical pole which pushes against the dustbin lid. So when the button is pressed the lever pushes the vertical pole up which pushes against the lid of the dustbin, thus opening it.

Task 2

Knives are used to cut things. But if an accident were to happen they can be dangerous. As you can see the knife is not attached to the cutting board. So if the cutting board was wet the knife slipping and cutting oneself is very high that is why I have created this merged product. In this product the knife will be attached to the chopping board so one just has to move the knife and the object to cut things. The person will not get hurt!
